Banana milk is the best dairy substitute and you can make it yourself

Move over, boring (and expensive! And not very eco-friendly!) soy and almonds. Banana milk is the new kid on the block, and it’s taking the vegan world by storm.

Let’s start with the nutritional power of this milk. You know bananas are fruits that are naturally packed with potassium, fiber, vitamins B6 and C, and pectin. All that goodness gets transferred to this dairy-free concoction, leaving your body more energetic. It also soothes your tummy and reduces the likelihood of muscle cramping and fatigue. Bananas have even been linked to less risk for stroke, diabetes, and cancer.


Ok, now onto how stinkin’ easy it is to make. All you need is the following:

1 frozen banana

1 cup water

1/4 tsp of cinnamon

pinch of sea salt

Blend everything until smooth, and it’s all ready to go. No muss, no fuss.

This recipe is a breeze compared to the effort it takes to make something like almond milk. From the soaking of nuts in advance to the cheese cloth you’ll need for straining, making almond milk requires a lot more thought-out planning, while banana milk only calls for a few extra minutes of your day.

Even better is how cheap it is. Let’s be generous and say one banana costs a quarter. You probably have the rest of the ingredients at home, so that’s all you’d be spending. However, it’s been calculated that to create the same amount of almond milk would come out to $1.75. It doesn’t sound like a lot now, but it certainly adds up.


Once you’ve mastered the original, don’t be afraid to experiment with cocoa powder, vanilla, or oats. You don’t even need to be a dairy-free kind of gal to enjoy banana’s milk never-ending magic.
