The reaction this woman had to a teeth whitening procedure will freak you out
Getting your teeth whitened is usually, for the most part, a pain-free experience. Unfortunately for a Glasgow woman named Abbie Killbride, what should have been a routine teeth whitening treatment turned into an absolutely nightmare, resulting in a severe allergic reactions and third-degree burns.
Abbi had just gotten her braces off and wanted to treat herself to a teeth whitening procedure. In a Facebook post, she describes how she set up an appointment with a local woman that she saw a couple of people on Facebook had went to. The procedure took about an hour, and was done at the woman’s personal home, which should have already been a red flag. Abbie says that the woman, whose name she did not reveal, did not ask her questions prior to the treatment, such as her age or whether or not Abbie had her teeth whitened previously. Immediately after she was finished, Abbie noticed that her lips were swollen, but the woman said it was normal and she should just put lipstick on it. What in the what?

Abbie put ice and took an antihistamine and thought she would be fine, but it got WAY worse. “I woke up the next morning and my two lips were literally stuck together and the whole right side of my lip was huge as if I had been in the boxing ring,” Abbie wrote. Remember when people were doing that terribly dangerous #KylieJennerChallenge and coming out with insanely swollen lips? That’s pretty much what Abbie looked like.

Going to a doctor didn’t help her, either. “After waiting all I was told by the doctor (who looked at my lips and laughed) was what I done was extremely stupid and it was a lesson learned even after saying I couldn’t drink and my whole mouth / tongue was numb,” she wrote.

At this point, Abbie’s mouth “had about 10 blisters” so a pharmacist told her to take a drugstore oral treatment that is used to relieve the pain of mouth sores.

“The next morning I woke up, still the same pain but the swelling on my lips had went down slightly, but instead of having lots of small blisters inside my mouth I had 2 huge ones (one at the top and one at the bottom ) which were a yellow colour.” Abbie couldn’t even open her mouth. Oh, and during all this time she tried contacting the woman who gave her the treatment and she never got a reply. SO sketchy.

Fortunately, Abbie was finally able to get an emergency appointment at a dental hospital and received the proper medication and treatment for her issue, which ended up being third-degree burns and a possible allergic reaction. So terrible! As Abbie points out in her post, this is a good lesson to ONLY go to reputable professional to do dental treatments.
