‘Back to the Future’ is getting the documentary it deserves just in time for Future Day
If you’re like me, then Back to the Future was one of the first movies that ever made you run around your house like a lunatic, pretending to do the impossible. In my case, it was running circles around the living room while imagining that I was driving a DeLorean and yelling at my mom to please move out of the way or I would NEVER make it to 88 miles per hour.
But what I used to get in trouble for as a kid isn’t the point. The point is that the Back to the Future trilogy is one of those iconic pieces of pop culture that played a big role in a lot of our childhoods. Whether you favor the original, classic, back-to-the-1950s movie or the totally respectable sequel, full of futuristic gadgets (hoverboards!) and alternate timelines (nerding out!) or the old west final installment (but really, if that’s your favorite…why? Why is that one your favorite?), you probably have warm fuzzy feelings about at least one of these classics, if not all three. And now, there’s a documentary for you, for me, for all of us.
Back in Time is an aptly-named documentary featuring interviews with all of the important players from the BttF cast and crew and it looks pretty amazing, if you’re into things like nostalgia, fangirling, and/or restored DeLoreans.
For years now, the Internet has been fumbling through the identification of Future Day (AKA the day in the future that Marty travels to in Back to the Future Part II). You’ve probably seen lots of declarations that TODAY IS THE DAY on your Facebook page. They’re usually accompanied by poorly-Photoshopped evidence (altered versions of the date display on the DeLorean in the movie). As a result, you might be jaded by the whole idea of Future Day at all, but dig deep and let your inner child freakout a little because this year is the actual year. October 21, 2015 is Future Day and, appropriately, that’s also the day Back in Time will fly into theaters.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go marathon the entire Back to the Future trilogy right now.
