This baby polar bear sleeping with a stuffed animal is breaking the Internet
A baby polar bear was born at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium five weeks ago, and today the Internet is getting a glimpse of the little cutie sleeping with a stuffed animal. Yes, you heard me. The zoo posted a video of the baby bear cuddling with a stuffed moose to its Facebook page. And now the entire Internet is weeping tears of joy from the sheer cuteness of it.
Think I’m exaggerating? Look at this screenshot. Just look at it…
The video is captioned, “POLAR BEAR CUB UPDATE: At 5 weeks old, the polar bear cub is doing very well; she weighs a little over 4 pounds and measures 16 inches long! Both eyes have started to open as of yesterday, but they are not fully open yet. The care staff says the sound that she makes in the video is of contentment. Her motor skills are improving each day and she has started trying to stand up on all fours, especially when she’s ready for her next meal! She is on six feedings a day, every four hours. The team has been evaluating her daily needs and provides care 24/7.”
This is excellent news for the zoo and for polar bears overall. Polar bears are classified as “vulnerable” under the Endangered Species Act and in captivity, their survival rate is only about 50 percent. The bear in the video was born as a twin, but the other bear died soon after birth. So in addition to being super adorable, the baby bear in the video is also a seriously big deal. So long as she keeps doing well, she’ll be the first polar bear born at the Columbus Zoo to survive in 27 years.
The video is titled “What Do Polar Bears Dream About,” and from the sweet little cooing noises to the baby bear’s candy-pink tongue, it’s the most adorable thing we’ve ever seen. We’re not sure what polar bears dream about, but now we’re dreaming about those cute snuffling sounds, that round little belly and bear hugs. Lots and lots of bear hugs.
Set your eyeballs on the adorableness in the video below, IF you can handle it. (Spoiler alert: you absolutely cannot.)
