Rad dad dresses his baby up as Elf on a Shelf, and it’s the best
One dad is taking holiday spirit to the next level. Alan Lawrence, a father of six based in Utah, has turned his son Rockwell into a real life Elf on the Shelf. For the duration of December, he’s been dressing him up in bright red duds and taking photos of him in strategically-styled, mischievous situations as part of a photo series for his blog That Dad Blog (and Instagram —which you should probably follow like right now).
Rockwell’s elf persona is based on the children’s picture book, which was released in 2004 and immediately became a Christmas classic. The story describes elves as magic-bearing scouts for Santa Clause who come down from the North Pole to make a list of who is naughty and who is nice. The book comes with a toy elf, which parents secretly move to different locations around the house every night to the delight of children everywhere who believe the magic is real.
Alan told ABC News that he came up with the idea after a friend mentioned that Rockwell resembled an elf. “I looked around on the Web and was surprised no one had ever done it before,” Lawrence said. He also mentioned that he always found the idea of an elf that comes alive at night a bit “creepy,” and wanted to put his own, happier spin on the idea.
