Aziz Ansari was a no-show at the 2018 SAG Awards
It appears as if Aziz Ansari did not show up to the 2018 SAG Awards after all.
The actor has been mired in controversy ever since last week when Babe.net published the article, “I went on a date with Aziz Ansari. It turned into the worst night of my life.” The polarizing piece was met with mixed reactions and sparked a fiery conversation about the nuances of sexual misconduct and coercion.
After the publication of the Babe article, Ansari responded in a statement saying, “It was true that everything did seem okay to me, so when I heard that it was not the case for her, I was surprised and concerned. I took her words to heart and responded privately after taking the time to process what she had said.” You can read his full statement here.
We actually predicted that it was most likely that Ansari would attend the award show, particularly because he was favored to win. But surprisingly, the Master of None actor was not in attendance Sunday night. His nomination was read while the first award of the night was given, but when the split-screen showed live shots of all the nominated actors, Ansari’s just showed a still shot photograph, implying that he was not at the event.
Ansari did not win the award, despite the fact he was the favored nominee, having just taken home a Golden Globe; instead William H. Macy won the SAG award for his role in Shameless.
