We have our first trailer for Aziz Ansari’s new Netflix show, ‘Master of None’

Like most people, I first became acquainted with Aziz Ansari on Parks and Recreation, where he played the sarcastic, entrepreneurial, over the top, and luxury-loving Tom Haverford. With anyone else playing the part, Tom probably would have been totally unbearable — but somehow, Ansari made him human, and the world was quick to fall in love. From the first episode, it was obvious that the actor/comedian was special.

Since then, Ansari’s career has been nothing short of extraordinary, and all of his accomplishments have been well-deserved. Over the past five years, he has released multiple comedy specials, appeared in a few movies, and, earlier this year, even co-wrote his first book. As if all of that weren’t exciting enough, last April, Netflix announced they were teaming up with him for a TV show of his very own. We were pretty darn excited, to say the least; and now, Netflix has finally released the show’s first trailer.

Master of None follows the story of Dev (Ansari), a 30-year-old actor living in NYC and struggling with life, love, and everything in between. Co-created with Parks and Recreation writer Alan Yang, we already knew the show would be guaranteed gold — but the trailer now confirms it. Over the course of the video, we see how Dev deals with an awkward condom mishap, his response to a problematic casting director, and his fears about having children. We get a taste of how he and his girlfriend (played by Noël Wells) experience social media in very different ways. We even get to see Dev’s (real-life!) father give him some dating advice. The whole thing is all kinds of amazing and hilarious and perfect.

But don’t be fooled: While there are similarities between Ansari and his Master of None protagonist, Ansari has made it clear the show is not based on his real life. (“Show is not autobiographical, but I do play an Indian guy who is an actor,” he tweeted today. “I know that’s confusing.”) Regardless, Master of None explores a lot of themes and topics that Ansari has tackled in his standup — including dating in the modern age and what it’s like to be a POC in the entertainment world.

Based on the trailer, it already looks like it’s going to be incredibly relatable and ridiculously smart. Whether it’s tackling ageism, racism, or sexism, Master of None seems to have it all — and that’s just based on a two minute trailer.

Check it out for yourself below, and Master of None when it debuts on Netflix November 4th.
