Aziz Ansari got real about why we won’t be seeing “Master of None” Season 3 anytime soon
When you have a hit show on Netflix, people will constantly be craving new episodes. And that’s why just mere weeks after the launch of its second season, people are asking Aziz Ansari about Master of None Season 3. Specifically, when we can expect to see it. Ansari got candid about his feelings in the fall issue of GQ Style, and while we’re a little disappointed, we can definitely see where he’s coming from.
Master of None launched back in 2015 to critical acclaim. Fans who recognized Ansari from Parks and Recreation were quick to give his solo effort a shot, and most loved what he created. Not only did the show tackle big topics (racism, sexuality, gender politics), but it conquered them with humor.
Of course, the show was successful (Ansari put his heart and soul into it). And, when you dedicate yourself to a project, sometimes you just need a moment to inhale and exhale.
"'What about season three?' Which is obviously a question people have to ask, but for me it's a little stress-inducing," he admitted to GQ Style. "[Co-creator Alan Yang] once said it best: It's like we just gave birth to a kid and they're like, 'When are you gonna have another kid?'"
It makes sense. (And surely, everyone with a kid knows how tough a question like that can be.) Since the show is a bit autobiographical, Ansari admitted that he still needs to live a bit to help bring more insight into a third season. Otherwise, it might just be retreading old material.
"I just feel like I've said a lot. Especially if you look at it—instead of two seasons of a TV show—as, like, seven movies. I mean, those two seasons are really personal, and it's a lot of content, a lot of ideas," he said. "Now I need a minute to refill my notebook. My life has not progressed enough for me to write season three yet."
So, will we get a third season? Probably. But, in Ansari’s eyes, it’s not something that should be immediate. With an attitude like that, we just know that Ansari is going to make sure he only works with his best material.
