Awesome Author Blogs and Vlogs You Need to Follow
Books are proof that authors are total word wizards, so it’s no surprise that the less edited thoughts inside their heads are equally amazing. More and more authors are keeping in touch with fans through their personal blogs and vlogs. It’s a great way to connect with readers, not just to tell them what’s new, but to create relationships. Plus, if you just can’t wait for their next work to come out, sometimes they post exclusive sneak excerpts just for their devoted subscribers. Another special feature I love is rolling back in their archives to when they weren’t even published or at least not so famous, and seeing how it all began! Here are some awesome authors blogger/vloggers you have to check out if you haven’t already:
John Green
I don’t even really need to tell you about this guy, but in case you’re living under an unlit cigarette, one of his most popular books was released as a film – The Fault in Our Stars. If that’s not enough John Green for you, and you’ve read all his other stuff, you should really check out his Youtube channel, created with his brother, Hank, called vlogbrothers. He also has a very active Tumblr, plus all the other usual social media accoutrement. How does this guy find time to write bestsellers?

If you don’t know their names you most likely know their books. He writes the Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children series and she the Shatter Me series. They also happen to be married and they also happen to make amazing videos together, under the handle Ransom and Tahereh. And they used a muppet in one of their short films, guys. And it was obviously fantastic.
Neil Gaiman
Neil Gaiman is basically one of my favorite people of all time. He’s written countless fantastical tales and collaborated alongside loads of other impressive artists, including wife Amanda Palmer. Neil keeps it real with a blog and a Tumblr where he posts frequently about his own life and musings, as well as actually answers questions submitted by readers. And this one time he posted this wonderful photo of him and his cat. Authors – they’re just like us!
Alexandra Bracken
Alexandra Bracken is the author of the best YA series you haven’t read yet, The Darkest Minds. Her third book comes out very soon and she just quit her day job to be a full-time writer. Hopefully that means more and faster books, but also more of her Tumblr posts. She posts sassy gif sets, lets us bozos fill her ask box with questions about her life and her work, and posts soundtracks to her books.
George R.R. Martin
This is my favorite and most precious entry on this list. He has a Livejournal. He still has a Livejournal. Livejournal. I know he’s very old school and still writes on a DOS processor, and yet the fact that he still has a Livejournal is adorable to me since the last time I had one was maybe 2003. He updates quite often and uses alien emojis to express his mood. It makes me wish I hadn’t deleted my embarrassing Livejournal all those years ago…and also that he was my cool Livejournaling Grandpa. Also, I’m pretty sure he’s Santa Claus in disguise. Gold medals to you, Mr. Martin.
Hugh Howey
You must go out and read Wool if you haven’t yet. It’s adult-future-dystopian-thriller-end-of-humanity-good-guys-bad-guys-good-guys-are-bad-guys-or-are-they-twisting-turning-crazy-amazing. You’ll be a fan of Hugh Howey very shortly, I guarantee. And after that you can hit up his blog where he tackles issues happening in the publishing world, talks about his writing process, and links to this great site where you can see how much money authors make, what’s getting published and how, and all sorts of other useful stuff if you’re an aspiring author.
