We are in awe of these “RuPaul’s Drag Race”/Pokémon mashups

As Pokémon Go continues its pop culture domination, we’ve been gleefully noticing a concurrent rise in Pokémon fan art, especially when it comes to turning celebs into Pokémon gym leaders. But more and more artists are realizing that one group of public figures is best suited for these transformations: RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants.

That’s right — folks are finally putting two and two together and realizing that the often hyper-coordinated, glamorous outfits prized in the drag world also make for fantastic themed Pokémon Gym Leader outfits. We’re particularly taken with artist Kirsten Brenner’s fan art for the Drag Race season 8 top three contestants, Bob the Drag Queen, Kim Chi, and Naomi Smalls:

I mean, just look at these fantastic, totally in-character outfits. Bob’s got that color-blocked, perfect fit going on; Kim Chi is totally in magical girl mode, and Naomi Smalls looks like her supermodel namesake. And because just showcasing the drag queen gym leaders themselves isn’t *quite* cool enough, Brenner also drew out their Pokémon of choice:

While we *adore* all of these, Team Fairy forever. (Sylveon and Clefable happen to be personal favorites of mine.) And those aren’t the only Drag Race contestants who got the Poké touch:

You can find some more Drag Race/Pokémon fan art on the Instagram tag #pokemonrealness (though as with all loosely-curated tags, tread lightly). Kim Chi in particular gets a lot of homages because of her particularly theatrical outfits and makeup. If you spend the next hour or so scrolling through, we don’t blame you; meanwhile, we’ll be dream-matching our favorite contestants with their probably gym leader types.
