Perhaps thanks to Netflix’s cult-favorite series Stranger Things, the ’80s vibe has definitely made a comeback this year. (Just look at all the puffy sleeves on the 2019 Emmys red carpet!) But don’t get distracted by brown lipsticks or denim-on-denim. The real showstopper has always been a dramatic hairdo. And last night, singer Halsey brought a classic updo back into the spotlight.

Halsey has always loved to experiment with different hairstyles and colors, and recently, she showcased both rainbow bangs and a rainbow hair part. In the past, she’s done a pixie cut, cropped bob, and colors that range from full blonde to electric violet to mermaid blue.

Halsey is a hair chameleon, but we love that she’s going back to basics with her beautiful natural curls.

According to Instagram, celebrity stylist Florido used Jorico products to get the red carpet look. The result is piled-high, classic ’80s prom queen curls. They paired well with the singer’s red carpet outfit: a fluffy, purple gown that gave the illusion of being made from feathers.

It’s not the first time the singer has let her curls run free. She posed for Rolling Stone back in June.

Halsey did grace the purple carpet for a more serious reason: she was invited to sing during the “In Memoriam” segment of the 2019 Emmys. For that, she changed to a more somber but still stunning short black dress with a train.

Between her outfits, her emotional cover of Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time,” and those gorgeous curls, Halsey really swept all of us away.
