Avoiding “cuffing season”? Here are some productive ways to spend your time instead
Raise your hand if “cuffing season” is cancelled for you this year. Unfamiliar with the term? Urban Dictionary provides us with two great definitions explaining what “cuffing season” is all about.
Definition #1:
“During the fall and winter months, people who would normally rather be single or promiscuous find themselves along with the rest of the world desiring to be ‘cuffed’ or tied down by a serious relationship. The cold weather and prolonged indoor activity causes singles to become lonely and desperate to be cuffed.”
Definition #2:
“Usually the colder months; i.e. fall or winter, when new relationships start and old relationships turn into engagements. The persons in said relationships are ‘cuffed,’ meaning that they no longer seek non-platonic relationships with others.”
While having a temporary-someone to snuggle up with during the cold winter months sounds nice, I’d rather put my energy into things that yields longterm positive results.
In my own little world, winter isn’t cuffing season — it’s grinding season.
I plan on aggressively attacking some goals right now so, come spring and summer, I can take a load off and bask in all of my accomplishments. In the fall, we talked about why avoiding cuffing season is a good idea. Now, we want to tell you how you can spend that alone time.
Here are some productive things to do this winter since you’ve got some extra time on your hands.

Turn a hobby into side income.
You have time to yourself, so why not make some additional income doing something you enjoy. Good at makeup? Try your hand at freelancing as a makeup artist. Have a way with words? Pitch an article or two to your favorite website or blog. Get creative and make some coins at the same time.
Get a mini makeover.
A makeover is a great way to make yourself feel like a million bucks — even if you’re not feeling so great inside. Since you won’t be kicking back in sweats curled up next to bae, take this as an opportunity to go big with your look. Have you been thinking about a new hair color? Working up the courage to wear a bold lip? Now’s the time to experiment how you’ve always wanted to.
See some of the world, even if it’s solo.
I’ll be first to tell you that traveling alone is much more enjoyable and exciting than many people think. Experiencing a new place will definitely keep you in high spirits and take your mind off of “missing out” on cuffing season. Traveling is just as good of a stress reliever as a temporary boo.
Reconnect with old friends.
Sometimes relationships, even the temporary ones, can put a strain on your friendships. While you have the time to invest in reconnecting with old pals, take advantage of it. Rebuild connections that can’t be broken up by a temporary (or permanent) bae entering your life. If you plan on skipping out on this year’s fleeting season of “love,” work towards your goals instead. Let your accomplishments keep you warm throughout this winter.
