Hold up! Disney might make an “Avengers”-like movie, but starring princesses
If you’ve ever felt yourself daydreaming about a version of The Avengers where instead of superheroes there are Disney Princesses, have we got news for you. A script has been making the rounds in Hollywood and getting a lot of attention. This isn’t a FOR SURE thing as the script was written by Nir Paniry, a relatively new writer, but Disney is seriously eyeing the project.
It’s still in the early stages, but the script has been sent to a bunch of buyers, and Joachim Ronning (the director of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) is attached to direct.
The specifics of the project are being kept under wraps, but it’s being pitched as Disney Princesses meets The Avengers, no doubt grabbing onto the coattails of all the popular Disney Princess movies that have been capturing our attention lately. While we’re STUPID excited about this potential blockbuster filled with some amazing women, we’ve got some serious reservations.
It seems important to note that nobody attached to this project is actually a woman. The writer, producer, and director currently packaged with it are all men. Hollywood is constantly under fire for its poor gender representation, and this seems a particularly conspicuous project to staff up with a bunch of men.
Doesn’t mean it’s not going to be good and that we’re not going to see it. A movie starring a whole host of Disney Princesses is going to be EPIC.
