This “Avatar” alum will be back for all *four* sequels — which is weird, because one is a prequel

Giovanni Ribisi will be returning to Pandora as the morally conflicted RDA administrator Parker Selfridge in the *four* Avatar sequels, Deadline reports — and can someone please explain to us what’s going on right now?

The four Avatar follow-ups to James Cameron’s 2009 sci-fi epic, which went into production late last month, have continued to raise more questions than answers as the acclaimed director has been very secretive about the rumored $1 billion dollar project.

Ribisi joins Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Joel David Moore.

The actors are also returning to the franchise for the upcoming installments. Sigourney Weaver, whose character Dr. Grace Augustine died during the first film, will be back as an unnamed character. And Kate Winslet and Oona Chaplin are joining the franchise as mysterious characters called Ronal and Varang.

While Cameron is remaining tight-lipped about the sequels, he did reveal in August that Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephan Lang), who orchestrated the attacks on the Na’vi and served as the primary antagonist in the first installment, will return as the Big Bad in all four sequels — but it’s unclear *how* he’ll return.

It’s safe to say the Avatar films are going to be an experience of epic proportions — we only hope we can keep up.

Based on what we know about the sequels, Sully (Worthington), who decided to remain in his avatar body for good, is now married to Neytiri (Saldana) and the two are now leaders of the Omaticaya, their Na’vi clan. Their three kids — Neteyam (Jamie Flatters), Lo’ak (Britain Dalton), and Tuktirey aka Tuk (Trinity Bliss) — will become central to the story as the Omaticaya and another clan, the Metkayina, presumably find themselves under the threat of Quaritch once again.

While Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 are reportedly sequels to the 2009 film, Cameron revealed in 2012 that Avatar 4 would probably be a prequel film.
