“Avatar 2” has been delayed, and the reason why is understandable

The last we heard James Cameron’s Avatar 2, the follow-up to the groundbreaking 2009 film Avatar, would hit theaters in 2018. But in a recent interview, Cameron says that Avatar 2 will be delayed. And before you get all upset, he’s got a great reason.

The first Avatar film took Cameron and his team over four years to complete. After all, the film relied heavily on special effects to create a stunning magical world. Four years! That’s a long time. But the film was beautiful, so we can’t complain.

Now, Cameron is tackling the task of filming not only Avatar 2, but also 3, 4, AND 5. That’s right. He’s making four new Avatar films. So while we may think waiting a little bit longer for Avatar 2 seems unreasonable, Cameron told The Star that mathematically, it actually makes sense.

"It’s an epic undertaking. It’s not unlike building the Three Gorges dam. So I know where I’m going to be for the next eight years of my life. It’s not an unreasonable time frame if you think about it. It took us four-and-a-half years to make one movie and now we’re making four."

Okay, so that’s completely logical. Twitter, of course, has taken this opportunity to make hilarious jokes about yet another delay to Avatar 2. After all, it has been almost 8 years since the first film was released. We can understand why fans would be getting a little bit restless. Luckily, humor seems to have won out. false

On a positive note, since Avatar 2 won’t be here in the near future, you have plenty of time to go watch Avatar about another thousand times. (and/or visit Disney World’s new Pandora.)
