Ava DuVernay hosted an extra-special screening of “A Wrinkle in Time” in her hometown of Compton, and it’ll give you all the feels

We cannot begin to express to you how excited we are to see Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time. Directed by Ava DuVernay, we’re totally expecting the sci-fi adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s novel to rock our world. And with just a few days to go before the film’s release date, Ava DuVernay hosted a special advance screening of the movie in her hometown of Compton, California. And, um, you need tissues for this one.

As it turns out, Compton doesn’t have a movie theater. However, the director announced on Twitter that she still asked Disney if she could host the first public screening of the movie at the local community center, and we cannot contain the feels.

"I asked @Disney if the first public screening of #WrinkleinTime could be in my hometown of Compton," DuVernay wrote on Twitter. "They created a theater experience with fab sound + picture quality out of a community center since there are no movie theaters in Compton. I thank them. And these kids do too."

Believe it or not, this happens to be only *one* way that A Wrinkle in Time has already made us cry. After the success of phenomenal campaigns to help kids and families see Black Panther — including one school that sent its students to see the world of Wakanda — one organization teamed up with AMC Theatres to help kids see A Wrinkle in Time.

This inspires us on so many levels, because we believe that movies like Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time can help smash barriers.

We cannot wait to see a new generation of young people rise up thanks to visionary filmmakers like Ava DuVernay and Black Panther director Ryan Coogler. It’s beyond inspiring to watch change take place, and we love seeing increased representation take Hollywood by storm. You can watch A Wrinkle in Time when it hits theaters on Friday, March 9th.
