Ashley Nada is our Illustrator of the Week!

Born in Los Angeles and based out of Xalapa, Mexico, Ashley Nada has completely won us over with her adorable illustrations. The self-proclaimed “Disney princess learning to be a normal human being” has a penchant for drawing girls in all their many forms, and her style is sweet and lovely and whimsical. We’ve had our eye on her work for quite some time, and we’re so excited to have her as our Illustrator of the Week!

No pressure, but describe your art: I would describe my art as an easy-going and happy form of expression about daily situations or feelings we all can have.

What inspires you to make things: Being able to show my feelings without talking about them, and my love for pretty things.

Your favorite thing(s) to draw: I love drawing situations, feelings, and funny stuff. I love being able to illustrate the different kinds of styles and women—for we are all worthy of being made into art! Also, I like it when other women feel like they can identify with what I feel in certain situations.

Medium of choice: Pen and paper are definitely my favorite! But when it comes to adding color, it would be watercolor and gouache, later on scanning, and, if necessary, editing in Photoshop.

The first time you knew you wanted to be an artist: The moment I realized I could make a living out of it! All my life, I have been a fan of expression and Disney movies; it was just a shocker when I found out that my need to draw things could actually take me somewhere. I also can’t imagine myself doing anything else, ever.

Proudest achievement so far: Every single time I have an assignment. It just flatters me that people feel a connection with my work.

Music you listen to while you work: Dido, She & Him, The Kooks, Taylor Swift, Snow Patrol, and so, so many more.

Your most prized possession: My glasses!

Your personal hero: Walt Disney, for the way he literally made his dreams come true —giving children an entire world of fantasy and happiness through art, and also giving thousands of artists serious jobs.

The last thing to make you giggle: My group of friends sending me photos.

Current project(s): Making illustrations for Ashley Nada Notebooks, and making brides happy with wedding illustrations!
