Ashley Judd and Mira Sorvino walked the 2018 Oscars red carpet together, making a powerful #MeToo statement
The Oscars are an incredible time for all things film, and they frequently become a platform for political statements. This year, everyone is stepping up even more than usual in light of the anti-sexual harassment movement in the entertainment industry. Mira Sorvino and Ashley Judd are heavily credited with bringing a voice to the #MeToo movement, as both actresses have been incredibly vocal about Harvey Weinstein’s harassment (Judd was one of the women who spoke up in the New York Times exposé, and Sorvino spoke out in the New Yorker exposé).
The two actresses were each other’s 2018 Oscars dates, walking the red carpet together at the 90th Academy Awards, creating a powerful united front in the name of #MeToo and #TimesUp. While speaking to ABC on the red carpet, both actresses — who starred in Norma Jean & Marilyn together — talked about the groundbreaking social movements. As Sorvino said, “I want people to know that this movement isn’t stopping. We are going forward until we have an equitable and safe world for women.”
Sorvino and Judd were both harassed by Weinstein, and they were both blacklisted by the now-infamous, disgusting producer. This makes their choice to walk the red carpet together all the more moving.
Twitter quickly took note of the statements Sorvino and Judd were making to reporters. false

Sorvino is speaking about the initiative #TakeTheLead, an Equal Rights Advocates campaign “for strong legislation that will reform the system that enables sexual harassment to continue unabated.” It’s also important to note, as Oscar-winner Sorvino did, that #TakeTheLead aims to help women in all workplaces, not just in Hollywood.
Harvey Weinstein launched a smear campaign against Ashley Judd and Mira Sorvino after they spurned his advances. Peter Jackson later confirmed that it ultimately cost both actresses roles in Lord of the Rings.
