Ashlee Simpson will release new music in 2017 and we’re super excited

We don’t know much about what the next year holds, but we can definitely expect it to sound different. According to Us Weekly, Ashlee Simpson will release new music in 2017, bringing an end to an 8-year hiatus. If you’ll recall, Simpson released her album Bittersweet World in 2008. Shortly after that, she took a break from the music scene, leaving the world to wonder if she would ever return to singing again.

Even though she hasn’t dropped new music in what feels like forever (we will never forget the lyrics to “Pieces of Me”), Simpson has obviously kept herself busy, opting to focus on her family, which includes her son with Pete Wentz, 8-year-old Bronx, and her daughter with husband Evan Ross, 1-year-old Jagger Snow.

“We’re working on an album together,” Simpson told Us of her forthcoming musical collaboration with Ross. “So in the new year, that will be happening! It’s been really fun to work together.”

In 2014, Ross teased new music with Simpson that was recorded as a part of his debut album, so they’ve had plenty of time to collaborate and refine their joint sound, which Simpson describes as “soulful, fun and reflective of music that [we] both like.” Ross previously told E! that he and his wife’s voices “sound really well” together, so we cannot wait to hear how their chemistry comes through in the music.

The 32-year-old mom of two also revealed that after the joint album, both she and Ross have plans to release solo albums.

Welcome back, Ashlee! Our playlists have missed you.
