Ashlee Simpson just confirmed that her iconic song “Boyfriend” was about Lindsay Lohan

Ashlee Simpson is here to answer a question from 2005 once and for all. The 33-year-old singer and actress joined Andy Cohen for a game of “Plead the Fifth” on his show, Watch What Happens Live. And the “Pieces of Me” singer spilled all the nostalgic tea. The biggest takeaway of the interview? Simpson’s iconic single “Boyfriend” was about none other than Lindsay Lohan and Wilmer Valderrama.

Cohen turned the spotlight on Simpson when he asked if the 2005 track was, in fact, inspired by her friendship with Valderrama while he was dating Lohan in the early aughts. She replied, “Yeah, I hung out with him first and I wasn’t interested in him at that point.” Of her relationship with Lohan now, she added, “And we’re great! All love.” Cohen then clarified, “So, ‘I didn’t steal your boyfriend,’ that was about you not stealing him from Lindsay Lohan?” To which Simpson replied, “I didn’t, I was done. But all love here.”

Tweens of 2005 will recall bopping along to the following lyrics, no doubt wondering just who exactly Simpson was singing about:

Simpson was joined by husband Evan Ross for the interview, during which she also ranked late ‘90s to 2000 pop stars and touched on sister Jessica’s divorce from Nick Lachey (on a scale from one to 10, she was a “five” in terms of surprised when Jessica and Nick split).
