This art is so life-like, it might make you question reality

When I was a kid, I would take my #2 pencil and a piece of computer paper, sit down in front of my cat and try to draw him as realistically as I could. Within ten minutes, I would be crumpling up the paper, infuriated that my “hyper realism” drawing looked more like one of the characters on Ahh! Real Monsters.

Art is hard, y’all!

Which is why YouTuber Marcello Barenghi’s 3D art is so totally mind-blowing. He shares videos of himself using normal artist’s tools, like pencils, markers, and gel pens to create drawings that are so realistic that it looks like you could pick them right up off the screen. Thanks to epic editing, Marcello fast-forwards his process, which can take over 35 hours per creation.

He recently uploaded a video showing how he makes a picture of 3D scissors, and it’s truly unbelievable.

I mean, even just this basic outline of scissors is pretty impressive.

Marcello makes his own stencil and then airbrushes shadows around the edges of the scissors. Why have I never thought to do that?!

He uses browns and blues and white to color in the blades. It’s hard to see how splotches of color will end up looking realistic, but just wait.

But once he starts adding more highlights and shading, the scissors suddenly come to life.

I know, it’s hard to believe, but I guarantee that he didn’t switch out his drawing for a real pair of scissors. That is real artwork made by a real human. If that isn’t proof that we can control our own reality, then I don’t know what is.
