Not an illusion — Netflix has just ordered Season 5 of “Arrested Development”
It seems that Netflix is taking the Bluth proverb, “there’s always money in the banana stand” to heart as the streaming platform announced TODAY that it just ordered Season 5 of Arrested Development, which is set to air in 2018.
In statement released by Netflix, the *entire* cast of the series: Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, Jeffrey Tambor, Jessica Walter, Will Arnett, Tony Hale, Portia de Rossi, David Cross and Alia Shawkat, along with creator Mitch Hurwitz, will return for the fifth season of the beloved cult TV series. That’s right — ALL the Bluths are back to wreak havoc on each other’s lives.
We didn’t think it was possible to be this excited.
“In talks with Netflix we all felt that stories about a narcissistic, erratically behaving family in the building business -- and their desperate abuses of power -- are really underrepresented on TV these days, series creator Mitchell Hurwitz said in the official Netflix press release. “I am so grateful to them and to 20th TV for making this dream of mine come true in bringing the Bluths, George Sr., Lucille and the kids; Michael, Ivanka, Don Jr., Eric, George-Michael, and who am I forgetting, oh Tiffany. Did I say Tiffany? — back to the glorious stream of life.
Season 4, which consisted to fifteen episodes, followed each member of the family as they struggled to move on from the events of Season 3 — which saw Michael (Bateman) severing his ties with the family and matriarch Lucille (Walter) revealed as the true criminal mastermind of the family.
The fourth season of Arrested Development was part of a major expansion in Netflix original programming, and chief content officer Ted Sarandos said the streaming platform was keen to see more of the Bluths.
“Arrested Development brings us structures, outerwear and choreography like no other comedy in history,” he explained. “Season Four marked the first foray by Netflix into original comedy programming and this time, the Bluths will collectively be spending more quality time with their millions of fans around the world.”
Last week, Batemen tweeted that he had officially signed back on to the series and our hearts immediately burst with joy.

We’re so excited to see the entire family back together again — in all their narcissistic, chicken-dancing glory. If there’s one thing we’re sure of, it’s that Netflix is not making a huge mistake.
