After people shamed Ariel Winter for showing her scars, she had some inspiring words
When Ariel Winter hit the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild Awards this weekend, she wore a stunning floor-length dress and even better smile. However, some people noticed a few scars peeking out of the dress, and that soon snowballed into a whirlwind of speculation and, to be honest, body shaming, until the 18-year-old actress set the record straight.
Last summer, Ariel Winter opened up to Glamour magazine about undergoing breast reduction surgery due to both physical and emotional discomfort. “I got it for myself,” she said. “I can’t even really put it into words about how amazing it feels to really feel right.”
So when people were referring to these scars as a “wardrobe malfunction,” she knew people needed a reminder of what it means to be confident in your body.
This is such an important message. Scars aren’t flaws, and her surgery is nothing to be ashamed of. If anything, these marks are a reminder of all she’s overcome in her journey to be her true self.
