Ariel Winter looks like a neutral-colored dream in this preppy fall ensemble
When you think fall, we typically think dark reds, rusty oranges, blacks, and browns. But Modern Family star Ariel Winter turned the tables on us by wearing a neutral-colored ensemble to Amazon’s Style Code Live on October 20th. We’re totally buying what she’s selling with this outfit.
Winter is all about taking fashion risks, often seen in revealing deep-plunge necklines and curve-hugging dresses. So it’s no surprise that she’s not abiding by the autumn color scheme we’re used to seeing. The actress paired a neutral sleeveless turtleneck with a flesh-colored mini skirt. She completed the outfit with nude heels.
Sin accessories, and even lacquering her nails with a soft neutral gray, Winter slays the super trendy monochromatic look.
Monochromatic outfits have been on trend since the release of Kanye West’s Yeezy clothing line in 2015, which boasts no frills, no accessories, and minimal color.
For context, here’s Season 4 of Yeezy, which premiered at New York Fashion Week. Winter would have fit in nicely.
Because of the simplicity of the colors and lines, Winter and Yeezy’s outfits are super simple to recreate with affordable pieces you may already own. But if you’re unsure about trying to pull this look off mid-October, we have a few tips to help you take the plunge.
Opt for long sleeves and pants instead of Winter’s skirt and sleeveless top. This neutral wrapped-hem turtleneck from Forever 21 for $12.90 would look amazing paired with these baby pink high-rise skinny jeans for $27.90, also at Forever21.
Try wearing light nudes in autumn fabrics like velvet, faux suede, or wool. This oversized sweatshirt from Topman for $40 matched with these faux suede Forever21 leggings for $19.90 makes for a Kanye-approved, super comfy outfit.
But sometimes light beiges and baby pinks don’t do certain skin tones justice. The great thing about monochromatic outfits is that they can be any color your heart desires. Try wearing a burgundy crop top with matching corduroy flares. An olive green sweatshirt with green army print leggings would be sporty and cozy. If you’re still not sure, always go for black on black.
Our girl Ariel loves a good black on black on black on black.
Winter makes a statement in her neutral toned ensemble, and you can, too! Monochrome is such an easy way to try something new without having to step too far outside your comfort zone.
