Ariel Winter got super real about the “meltdowns” she used to have while shopping for bathing suits

For some people choosing a bathing suit to wear can be a pretty difficult and stressful experience, and for Ariel Winter buying a bathing suit was no different. In fact, the star recently revealed that she used to have “meltdowns” when trying to figure out what she could wear.

The star opened up in a new interview with Refinery29 where she talked about body positivity and finding her confidence. As we know, Ms. Winter isn’t that shy to express herself, and we love her for it.

However, things weren’t always that way. The Modern Family star opened up about the difficulties that she used to have when bathing suit shopping. The 19-year-old spoke about how, before she had her breast reduction surgery, she found the whole experience difficult.

“Before [my surgery], I didn’t feel like myself, and everyone was so focused on my cleavage, so when I got the breast reduction it helped me feel so much better about my body,” she explained.

"I used to have full-scale meltdowns in bathing suit shops because there was nothing I could find to wear. I always felt like crap about myself. It’s gotten a little better, but it’s still definitely hard."

In fact, Winter said that she still often finds herself comparing herself to her friends.

“[M]y best friend, she’s super tall and skinny and she’ll wear the same bathing suit as me, but people will automatically look at me and call me out as a slut or write headlines about ‘Ariel Winter’s cleavage.’ Meanwhile they look at her like, ‘Oh she looks so cute!’

"But I’ve learned to not care about that as much. I’m comfortable in a bathing suit, scars and all.

Too right!

The actor also opened up about her relationship with her 29-year-old partner, actor Levi Meaden, and spoke about how she actually likes to wear a full-face of makeup to the beach as it helps with her confidence.

She also discussed the amount of bullying and trolling she experiences online.

“I went through a lot of hate online, so I tried to change myself for a really long time. But people just kept hating on me no matter what I did,” she said. “I decided that instead of pleasing these other people, I’ll just spend that time pleasing myself. Those people are going to be rude to me regardless of what I do, so I should just try and be happy with what I am.”

While she might not mean to be one, we do find Ariel Winter to be a role model and an inspiration. We love that, at 19 years old, she lives her life to the fullest, and is 100% authentic and true to who she is. We’re glad to hear that now, when she wants to hit the beach with her friends, she feels confident and comfortable, as that’s all that matters. Keep doing you, girl!
