You guys—Ariana Grande’s newest album, Sweetener, is officially out as of today, August 17th. Pop the champagne! We’ve been bingeing it all day and have yet to pick a favorite song, they’re just all so good. But, as self-proclaimed mega-Arianators, we’re kicking ourselves for not realizing that Grande revealed lyrics from her song “Pete Davidson” on Instagram months ago.
Before the collection of couple tattoos, before the surprise engagement, and literally one day after Grande and Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson made their relationship IG official, Grande gave us lyrics from “Pete Davidson” in the caption of an Instagram post.
“i thought u into my life ? woah ! look at my mind ?⚡?,” Grande captioned a post from May 31st.
Yeah—MAY 31st!
Grande was secretly giving us the first two lines of “Pete Davidson,” and hindsight has never been more 20/20.
The Sweetener songstress appeared on The Tonight Show on August 16th where she talked to host Jimmy Fallon about the album release and even gave fans a sneak peak at “Pete Davidson.” She also revealed that she wrote the song about a week after she and Davidson started hanging out.
Grande told Fallon that she had been crushing on Davidson since 2016 when they first met at an SNL writer’s room meeting. Watch the video to hear a snippet of the song (it’s fab, obvs).
