Ariana Grande shared a heartbreaking message remembering her “dearest friend” Mac Miller
Last week, rapper Mac Miller died from an alleged drug overdose, and now, his ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande has shared a heartbreaking tribute to her once-boyfriend. The two were first linked back in 2013 when they collaborated on Grande’s hit song “The Way.” They announced that they were officially together in 2016 and dated for two years until Miller and Grande ultimately called things off in May 2018.
Grande first took to Instagram two days after Miller’s death, which occurred Friday, September 7th. She posted a simple black and white photograph of Miller, sans caption.
One week later, on September 14th, Grande broke her social media silence, posting a short video of Miller taken during their relationship. Alongside the video, she wrote,
"i adored you from the day i met you when i was nineteen and i always will. i can’t believe you aren’t here anymore. i really can’t wrap my head around it. we talked about this. so many times. i’m so mad, i’m so sad i don’t know what to do. you were my dearest friend. for so long. above anything else. i’m so sorry i couldn’t fix or take your pain away. i really wanted to. the kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. i hope you’re okay now. rest."
Sadly, Miller’s substance abuse spiraled out of control shortly after he and Grande ended their relationship. In May, he was arrested for a DUI and seemed to have a hard time getting sober. Many blamed his breakup with Grande for the accident and his substance abuse.
Before Miller’s passing, though, Grande spoke out about being blamed for his addiction. She reminded fans that their relationship was toxic and that it was not her responsibility to be his “babysitter.”

We can’t imagine how hard Miller’s passing must be for those who cared for him. It’s comforting to know he was surrounded by so much love and support when he was onstage and off.
