Ariana Grande is set to receive a huge honor following her Manchester benefit concert

After what can only be described as a heartbreaking and surreal few weeks, the city of Manchester could be about to make Ariana Grande an honorary citizen under a new city council scheme.

The singer, of course, was performing in Manchester when a terrorist attack took place at the concert, killing 22 individuals and injuring many more.  After taking a brief moment to return home to her family in Florida, Grande announced that she would be hosting a benefit concert in the city to honor the victims, and it was a moving and incredible show of support not only for the those affected but also to show that the world would not be beaten down by terror.

Now, following the benefit concert, Ariana Grande is set to become an honorary citizen of Manchester.

Speaking to the BBC, council leader Sir Richard Leese said that many people in the city already considered Grande a citizen of Manchester, especially following the benefit concert, which has raised over $9 million for those affected, so it seemed fitting that she would be a recipient of this honor.

“This seems a fitting moment to update the way we recognize those who make noteworthy contributions to the life and success of our city,” he said. “We’ve all had cause to be incredibly proud of Manchester and the resilient and compassionate way in which the city, and all those associated with it, have responded to the terrible events of 22 May — with love and courage rather than hatred and fear.”

Sir Leese also said that the singer “exemplifies this response,” as the council also announced that a second event would be held later in the year to honor the “great many selfless acts and demonstrations of community spirit in the aftermath of the atrocity.”

Meanwhile, it was recently reported that Ariana Grande and her dancers had gotten matching bee tattoos to honor the victims of the attack.

The singer also resumed her “Dangerous Woman World Tour” last week.
