Ariana Grande has a message for slut shamers on her new tour
YAS, ladies — this is how it’s done. During a musical interlude in her new Dangerous Woman tour, Ariana Grande puts slut-shamers in their place with a few powerful words. It’s not Grande’s first time confronting critics’ skewed views. Last December, she pointed out that “[e]xpressing sexuality in art is not an invitation for disrespect.” And who can forget the time she totally shut down a sexist interview question? But this interlude is part of every single show on Grande’s tour, which means she’s working overtime to get the message out. Basically, in case it wasn’t already clear: Ariana Grande doesn’t take sh*t from anyone.

Ariana Grande’s powerful interlude
The interlude starts with a close-up on Grande’s face. A series of words appear: “STRONG. GROUNDED. CENTERED. CONNECTED.” Then, Grande fills the frame in a super hot (and may we say, totally badass) pose. It’s not far off Jennifer Beals’ stance on the cover of Flashdance. Dressed in a leotard and leg warmers, Grande tilts her head to one side while staring into the camera. Then comes the really poignant moment.
NOT ASKING FOR IT
The phrase “NOT ASKING FOR IT,” set against a black backdrop, takes over the screen.
The video continues with more images of Grande and the words “LADYLIKE. IRREVERENT. WILD. FREE.” Then the phrase “NOT ASKING FOR IT” appears again, this time written across Grande’s torso. Next, another series of single words: “PLAYFUL. SOULFUL. WILLFUL. RAW. GENTLE. FEROCIOUS.” There’s a shot of Grande shaking her head, then the phrase appears again: “NOT ASKING FOR IT.”
The video goes on for another 30 seconds or so before ending on the word “FEMALE.”
We love how Grande uses her art and her platform to get the message across: That basically, nothing about being a strong, confident, sexual woman means you’re “asking for it.” Boom.
