Ariana Grande brushes off trolls with a powerful message about body positivity

Just yesterday, we were applauding Ariana Grande for shutting down interviewers who were asking her majorly sexist questions. “I have a long list I’d like to change,” she told the interviewers. “I think judgment in general. Intolerance, meanness, double standards, misogyny, racism, sexism. All that sh*t. There’s lots that we’ve got to start on. That’s what we need to focus on. We’ve got work to do.”

Ariana is constantly working towards that by standing up for what she believes in. This time, she’s calling out an Instagram commenter who made a majorly sexist comparison between her body and the body of Modern Family‘s Ariel Winter, after she posted a photo from her latest single, “Focus.”

The commenter said they’d “definitely” prefer Ariel over Ariana because “curves are sexy [and] sticks aren’t.”

Ariana took a screengrab of the comment and added a comment of her own that is making us stand up and give her a round of applause. “Sigh,” she wrote. “Tweets, comments, statements like this are not okay. about anyone. . .we live in a day and age where people make it IMPOSSIBLE for women, men, anyone to embrace themselves exactly how they are.” She noted that diversity and loving yourself — both of these things are sexy. What’s not: “misogyny, objectifying, labeling, comparing and body shaming,” she wrote. “. . . The things that make us different from one another make us BEAUTIFUL. BODY BOUNDARIES.”

She also gave those reading an important reminder in the caption: “[I]n case you need a reminder, you’re beautiful. . . it’s a beautiful day to be yourself!!”

Ariana also tweeted the picture, prompting Ariel, who has recently undergone breast reduction surgery and has been very vocal and open about body positivity, to respond. “Thank you @ArianaGrande,” she wrote. “Women should empower one another. Celebrate each other – you’re all beautiful.”

There’s nothing better than seeing kickass women stand up and use their influence for the greater good. Ariana used a negative moment in her life and transformed it into a teachable moment to inspire anyone who may be going through the same thing. And inspire she did. Many have been taking to Twitter to express their feelings about the post:

Thanks, Ariana, for standing up for what’s right.
