We can’t get enough of Aretha Franklin’s brilliant performance of ‘Natural Woman’

Aretha Franklin is the kind of person who probably goes to sleep in a bed stuffed with ostrich feathers and sporting a 2,000 thread count sheets set, wakes up to the sound of pure bird song, and then out-sings the birds with her morning warm-up. When she graces us mere mortals with the full force of her vocal abilities, all you can do is tear up, stand up, and raise your arms to the heavens like you’re being teleported into the stratosphere. Such was the case of her performance at the Kennedy Center in D.C., where she performed a cover of Carole King’s “Natural Woman” that brought not just King, but the President, the First Lady, and every other person in the damn house to their feet.

King, who was one of six performers spotlighted at the Kennedy Center Honors stage this year, nearly fell over herself at Franklin’s rendition of the iconic tune, which King co-wrote. But of course, what would you do if the Queen of Soul came out on stage, blew you a kiss, and then delivered a heart-stopping rendition of a song you helped turn into a legend, all while bringing the President of the United States to tears? Look, this is the kind of thing best experienced by just watching. Volume ON:
