Aquarius season begins this weekend, so get ready to volunteer more and start thinking outside the box
On January 20th, we move out from the studious, striving, and serious sign of Capricorn and enter the wild world of Aquarius, the madcap scientist of the cosmos. Ruled by Uranus, the planet of originality, this is the sign that forces us to think outside the box. Forward-thinking and inherently humanitarian, Aquarius is all about the future and how we can make it better for humankind. Aquarius believes we are more than who we are think we are in this moment. It asks, how can we improve this situation, this circumstance, this challenge, in order for us to transcend and transform? Powerful and heavy questions, sure. But we can handle it.
Aquarius is symbolized by the water bearer, bringing water to their community. Aquarius wants to help. It knows that together, we are stronger. Aquarius represents benevolent love. You need a song to describe Aquarius? Think old-school “Higher Love.” Need a deity to worship? Think Oprah, an Aquarius, who is the living embodiment of what it means to be a true water-bearer. So during these next four weeks, we will be searching for things that can benefit the collective “us.” Maybe it’s volunteering at your local animal shelter, or applying for a position at a nonprofit, or using your platform for the greater good.
Aquarius is an air sign, which basically means they live in their heads; they’re thinkers more than feelers. While this might seem to contradict their humanitarian tendencies, it just means they’re more concerned with probable solutions than allowing emotions to take over their sense of reasoning. They love to come up with the answers and take the right action to get the big job done. So expect to be in deep in your thoughts throughout this transition. The drawing board will be your new best friend. You’ll be brainstorming a whole bunch of new ideas, inventions, and solutions to help yourself, your dreams, and those around you.
And when it comes to those ideas, think big and bold. Aquarius doesn’t like to stay within the lines. They’re not only non-conforming, they’re rebellious. If someone tells an Aquarius that something can’t work, they will go out of their way to prove the naysayers wrong. This is your time to do the same. Don’t be afraid to reinvent and redefine yourself, which can include anything and everything from your career aspirations to your relationships to how you live your life. Is it true to you? What can you do better? What can you do differently that feels more authentic? How can you live your vision?
Here’s another big thing about Aquarius: they’re idealistic visionaries. Their belief in change and #goodvibes helps fuel their powerful imaginations. Since they’re also entwined with technology, the future, and being, well, a little bit “weird,” they can dream up bodacious plans that are, quite literally, out of this world. Tap into that funky goodness. Fly your freak flag high. Be true to yourself in whatever you do, in the most grandiose and avant-garde way possible. Dare to try something new and, more importantly, dare to embody the most free-wheeling part of yourself.
Because when we embrace and indulge the so-called crazy aspects of ourselves (the audacious dreams, the ambitious goals, the idealistic attitude) that those around us have deemed “not normal” or “too big,” it’s only then that we are able to give ourselves, and the world, the greatest gift of all: our freedom.
