This Unlikely $10 Product Gives Me the Glowiest Skin Ever
Plus, my skin feels more moisturized than ever before.
Welcome to Game Changers, a weekly series in which we reveal the holy- grail beauty products we’re loving now—the ones that saved our hair, cleared our skin, and, in some way, changed our lives.
I used to believe that glowy skin could only be achieved with the help of makeup—think bronzers, highlighters, body luminizers, anything with lots of shimmer involved—but not skincare. And even if I could achieve a glowy complexion with skincare products, it was only expensive exfoliators and high-end serums that could eventually make it happen. However, I recently found out by accident that I could get radiant skin through a cult-classic drugstore product when I turned to my tried-and-true Aquaphor Healing Ointment to fix a dry patch on my face.
For background, Aquaphor is a multi-purpose healing ointment that’s usually used to combat dryness, and it’s a must-have for nurturing skin after doing a harsh treatment like a chemical peel or microneedling. I’ve been using it for years to heal chapped lips in the winter, so I knew it’d help heal the dry spot on my cheek. But what I discovered in the process that it also gave my cheek a subtle highlight.
Now, when I need to run out and look presentable, I go about my regular skincare routine and apply a bit of Aquaphor to the heights of my cheeks, eyelids for a lid glow, and my lips for a high-shine, kissable finish. I immediately look so glowy, not greasy, and it gives me this tropical appearance despite that the most sun I get is a walk to the grocery store. But that’s not what’s best about Aquaphor.
Since I started using it almost daily, I’ve found that my skin is so much smoother and more hydrated than before. Usually, my skin dries out severely during that weird transition period between fall and winter, but now I’m actually more moisturized than I am in the spring and summer when my skin is naturally more hydrated. For that, I have my increased use of Aquaphor to thank. I now carry it everywhere with me, boasting a different bottle for each of my bags, and have discovered my love for Aquaphor’s lip balm formula, too.
So no, I haven’t given up my love for the finer things in beauty completely, but you can bet that when people ask me my holy grail, the $10 ointment will be the first thing mentioned.
