There’s a job that lets you watch Netflix all day long, and here’s how you can apply
Have you ever dreamed of getting paid to just sit around and watch TV all day? If so, we have the perfect job opportunity for you. Although it may sound like one of those sketchy internet scams, rest assured, it’s actually not. In fact, it’s a completely legitimate job and you’d be working for Netflix. The role of a “Netflix tagger” caught some attention this week after a Fast Company profile delved into the world of these professional binge-watchers.
Basically, Netflix taggers, or more formerly known as editorial analysts, watch Netflix shows, movies, and specials in order to tag each with relevant metadata. Those tags make it easier for you to search for things to watch based on categories you like or things you’ve already seen.
“Our job is very much like being a librarian and making sure things are classified accurately, but you also have the broad knowledge base of how TV shows or movies are related, and if they look good together in a row on our site,” Netflix creative analyst Sherrie Gulmahamad told Fast Company. “Netflix looks for someone who has both skill sets, plus a passion for innovation.”
So if you have a passion for curating content and knowing what looks good together, “Netflix tagger” may be the right job for you.
The good news is, the company is hiring for editorial analysts right now.
As Netflix writes in its job posting, “We are seeking an entertainment-savvy analyst to help categorize television series, specials, and movies for our 100+ million users. You will be tagging, rating, researching, and enhancing title-level metadata for the Netflix Originals catalogue in a high-volume, high-quality, deadline-driven environment.”
The ideal candidate should have a “deep knowledge, five-plus years experience, and education in the film and/or television industry.” You should have a knack for distinguishing the nuances within different types of content and be able to share your findings in a concise way.
