Heads up: Big changes at the Apple Store website

Every now and then, you’re surfing the Internet when you have to stop and do a double-take. Something’s different about the website you’re on – you can’t exactly put your finger on it, but you know a change has happened.

That was the truth yesterday for Apple, which announced that it would be getting rid of its separate site dedicated solely to the Apple online store and incorporating everything into one website – Apple.com. Now, users have a completely one-stop shop dedicated to all the Apple they could ever need or want, and they won’t have to be redirected to a different website if they’re interested in checking out anything from products to music to TV shows.

In a statement made to Mashable, an Apple spokesperson confirmed that the redesign was made completely for the benefit of Apple customers. “We redesigned Apple.com knowing that our customers want to explore, research and shop in one place. The new Apple.com takes the very best of our existing site and our online store to give customers one simple destination to learn and buy without navigating between two different sites.”

While the site originally had a separate button for the online store that users could click on, the redesign streamlines everything into one place. Instead of a “Store” button on the top menu, there’s a small shopping cart icon included now where users can keep track of all of their purchases as they continue to browse the site. Definitely an improvement!

In addition to the change in layout, Apple’s also chosen to include purchase buttons next to products listed on its website. No longer will users have to go searching for a place to buy what they want – if they see it and know what they need, it’s a million times easier for them now instead of having to go hunt separately in the Apple store for the same item.

This is a majorly smart move for Apple and more than convenient for its customers – although it’s going to make it even harder for us to resist impulse buys moving forward.
