Here’s everything Apple might be unveiling at its September event — so get excited
It’s that time of year again. In just a few days, Apple will hold its annual iPhone event in San Francisco. This is the event everyone’s been talking about, and included in the chatter are plenty of rumors about what might be unveiled. Here’s what you might see.
The iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus
This is the number one sure thing that will be unveiled at the event. It’s a “tock” year for Apple, which means we won’t see any major changes to the overall design of the iPhone. What will be different, is on the inside.
The iPhone 6S and 6S Plus will have a faster processor thanks to a new A9 chip, which will offer increased speed and graphics. In addition, we can probably also expect increase RAM from 1GB to 2GB.
Besides changes in the processors, the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus are expected to be made from Aluminum 7000, which should make the phone resistant to bending.
We’ve also heard some rumors about new colors for this iPhone, and an addition you can probably expect is rose gold. Ooo, pretty.
The new iPhones will also most likely have a 12-megapixel camera and will also reportedly record video in up to 4K. And you selfie-takers will love this: Apple’s FaceTime camera is now rumored to get a bump up to 5 megapixels. That’s a big increase over the 1.2-megapixel FaceTime camera on the current phones.
iOS 9
Even if you aren’t planning on getting the new iPhone 6S or 6S Plus, you can still get the new iOS9 on your iPhone 4S and iPad 2 and up. There are a ton of new features to look forward to in iOS 9. One important thing we’ll most likely see is a new Low Power mode for making battery life better. I’m especially excited for that one because my phone is always dying. We’ll also see big improvements to Siri and Spotlight and a big upgrade to Apple Maps. iOS 9 is expected to be released sometime next week, a few days before the new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6 Plus go on sale.
Apple TV
Apple is expected to finally unveil a new Apple TV, which will have updated interface, better hardware, game support, support for Siri AND maybe even gestures. The new Apple TV is expected to have an A8 processor (the same as what’s inside the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus), which is apparently a big deal. It means that your Apple TV will be able to run real apps and because the Apple TV is powered by a wall socket and not a battery, it has the ability to use that power in even more ways.
In addition to the processor, Apple is reportedly also ready to open the Apple TV up to other developers. Specifically, we’re talking game developers. With better hardware, the Apple TV could now be used as a gaming console. This is a big deal for you gamers out there. Apple is also expected to announce some form of controller for the Apple TV, which could be a stand-alone or some evolution of the controllers that already exists.
Apple Watch Updates
The biggest new feature expected for the watchOS2 is support for native Apple Watch apps, which means that instead of having to tether from the phone to the watch, apps can run directly on the Apple Watch. Apple is also expected to announce new apps like Facebook and other companies that aren’t currently on the Apple Watch.
Also be on the look out for new bands for your Apple Watch. Fashionistas will like that one. The other rumor is that Apple will release a rose gold Apple Watch Sport. Another pretty addition.
iPad Pro
One big thing expected for this years event is the release of a 12.9-inch iPad, also known as the iPad Pro. This version of the iPad is geared toward business professionals.
At this point, we aren’t totally confident this one will be unveiled this month, however. Historically, Apple has held separate events for the iPhone and the iPad— usually about a month apart. We’ve seen conflicting reports about whether or not Apple unveils the new iPad Pro and an updated iPad mini 4 on Wednesday, or at a separate event in October. I guess we’ll have to wait and see! Either way, there’s a lot to look forward to.
