This Apple Music boss just apologized for some serious mansplaining

Recently, Apple Music has been working hard to market their music streaming service to women. They recruited celebs like Mary J. Blige, Kerry Washington, and Taraji P. Henson to star in a series of commercials about the service. Why this intense interest in marketing towards women? Well one of the heads of the service, Jimmy Iovine, says it’s because women have a “very difficult” time finding music. Huh?

Here’s the full quote from his interview with CBS This Morning:

Uh, excuse us? We couldn’t hear you over all that complaining about boys we’re doing. Because what else could us women possibly be talking about?

If he intended to go on TV to market the service towards women, he certainly lost a chunk of the demographic with that comment.

It’s no wonder Iovine backtracked with an apology yesterday. In a statement to press he wrote:

“We created Apple Music to make finding the right music easier for everyone — men and women, young and old. Our new ad focuses on women, which is why I answered the way I did, but of course the same applies equally for men. I could have chosen my words better, and I apologize.”
