This is when the Apple gods might release a cheaper MacBook Air
Apple, we love you. But we don’t love your price tags. For those of us who are in a love/hate relationship with our Apple products, we have good news. According to 9To5Mac, Apple might be releasing a cheaper MacBook Air. Praise the tech gods! Someone up there is looking out for our wallets.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities released an investor note, on March 3rd, stating that a new 13-inch MacBook Air might be released to the public later this year — “with a lower price tag,” Kuo stated. We could get our hands on this new laptop during the second quarter of 2018, which isn’t that far away.
The cheaper price may be a response to the lag in MacBook Air sales in recent years, as 9To5Mac speculates. Apple has spent more energy pushing their 12-inch MacBook and MacBook Pro rather than raise the Air from its slow death.
Currently, the 13-inch MacBook Air sells for $999. Compared to the $1299 12-inch MacBook and the $1299 13-inch MachBook Pro, the Air is already the cheapest Apple computer on the market. 9To5Mac reports that even though Apple has neglected the Air, it’s still a popular choice for college students, most likely due to its price.
In January of 2018, 9To5Mac also reported that a writeup from Digitimes revealed that Apple was planning to introduce a new 13-inch entry-level MacBook later this year. No details were provided to clarify what “entry-level” could mean, but many thought it pointed to a successor for the already simple MacBook Air.
Keep your eyes peeled for an updated MacBook Air with a much more appealing price tag. Let’s just hope and pray that our old MacBooks keep chugging until the cheaper version of the Air is released.
