Apparently the new “Thor” movie is going to be *very* different from other Marvel films
Different is not always better, but sometimes, it’s WAY better. Which is why we’re intrigued to hear that the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok will ignore the rest of the Marvel universe. Because when it comes to a formulaic genre movie — you know, like well, most superhero movies — it’s kind of nice to switch things up a little, isn’t it?
Well, at least that’s what Ragnarok director, Taika Waititi, thinks. In a Reddit AMA, Waititi’s said,
"I made an effort to ignore the fact that there are other Thor films. I’m trying to ignore the rest of the universe and just make my own awesome movie."
An admirable, yet ambitious admission to a comic fan audience, who tend to be quite protective of the source material.
But, what’s so different, exactly? As Variety points out, Bruce Banner is going to get some extra shine. Yes, even in a movie about Thor. Waititi teased that the Hulk’s alter ego, “will be the breakout character in the film.”
They also pointed out that Thor’s romantic life is taking a turn, given Natalie Portman’s absence.
While the changes might seem hard to accept, we’re not all that worried. We have the utmost confidence that we’re seriously going to be fangirling out over the final results. Because, well, it’s THOR guys!
