Apparently people have been confusing Debbie Reynolds with a certain Disney channel star (who is definitely alive and well)

We were so incredibly saddened to hear of the passing of one of Hollywood’s most legendary actresses: Debbie Reynolds (who passed just a day after her equally legendary daughter, Carrie Fisher). But as the world mourns, we just found out that some fans have been mourning the wrong person.

Some people out there have been under the impression that Debbie Reynolds was Disney channel star Debby Ryan — which is definitely NOT the case. Debbie Reynolds was 84 at the time of her death and starred in such Hollywood classics as Singin’ in the Rain and The Unsinkable Molly Brown.

Debby Ryan, however, is 23 years old and starred in the Disney channel original show Jessie, as well as has appearedin guest-starring roles on a number of other television shows. She first became aware of the mixup herself after noticing the confusion on Twitter.

We can see how people could have gotten confused — the names are extremely similar and in an era of lightening-speed news updates coming at you from a ton of angles, we can totally see how a person could misread one — especially if they were of a younger generation that (sadly) may not be as familiar with Debbie Reynold’s iconic work.

Either way, we’re glad everything’s cleared up now and that Debby Ryan is safe and sound. Because we just couldn’t take more bad news this week.
