This app will help you ditch toxic relationships
Today in I-can’t-believe-this-is-real, a new app called Binder (a riff on Tinder) will help you break up with someone in the bluntest and most hilarious way possible. If you’re an iPhone or Android user, you can just enter the gender, name and phone number of your desired ex, choose from a list of reasons for the break up, swipe, and you’re on your way to freedom.
It looks a little something like this:
The app comes from the minds of Tennent’s, a Scottish beer company that has a history of spoofing technology. Before this they made fun of the Apple Watch with their own product, the “AyeWatch,” a watch that only says “Aye,” which, by the way, I’d buy immediately.
As hilarious as the app is, it’s hard to figure out just why a Scottish beer company is devoting so much time to these tech spinoffs. Is it a commentary on dating in the age of the Internet? A look into harsh reality of young love? Or just the product of one too many drinks and too much free time?
Whatever the reason, I’m into it. The pre-recorded phone messages are my favorite, delivered by a detached but somewhat concerned Scottish man who has no problem breaking the news as harshly as it was intended. You can listen to a couple of them over here.
The app is so incredibly mean, so over-the-top ridiculous, that’s it’s hard to believe that there’s a single ex out there who would be receiving these messages in earnest. Unless they really really deserved it.
