Twitter is having the time of their lives with this Anthony Scaramucci tweet from 2012

One of the first thing you learn in any writing course is to never misattribute a quote. One of the second things you learn is to always check your facts. Anthony Scaramucci, the new White House Communications Director, clearly skipped this day, and he is now paying the ultimate price: Twitter shame. Talk about being reported for fake news!

After Sean Spicer’s resignation, the newly appointed Communications Director really should have done a quick sweep of his old tweets and deleted all the problematic ones (shouldn’t he have a social media team??). But he didn’t, and now he is being supremely ROASTED on Twitter dot com. Sarah Huckabee Sanders would never!

Although he previously tweeted many things that do not align with his new position in Trump’s cabinet, and people are RTing those old tweets for dear life, there is one tweet in particular that people are finding intensely LMAO.

It’s a faux pas that would make any English professor blush.

It is semi-inspiring that an adult male politico tweeted words that have been printed on every bracelet, poster and locker magnet sold at Claire’s Accessories. Girl power! But he is dead wrong regarding who said this quote.

Sorry, Anthony Scaramucci. Mark Twain never said that.

Although it’s a beautiful sentiment (who doesn’t want to sing like no one is listening?), he attributed the quote to famous American author Samuel Clemens, aka Mark Twain. Let us repeat, Mark Twain NEVER said this. Anything you can quote from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer or Huckleberry Finn? Mark Twain. “Life is purgatory at all times, & a swindle & a crime — yesterday it was hell”? Mark Twain. “Dance like no one is watching”? NOT Mark Twain.

So who DID say this? It’s largely attributed to Susanna Clark and Richard Leigh who wrote the eighties hit, “Come from the Heart.” The lyrics are:

You’ve got to sing like you don’t need the money. Love like you’ll never get hurt. You’ve got to dance like nobody’s watchin’. It’s gotta come from the heart if you want it to work.

Guess 2012 Scaramucci didn’t use Google.

Hilariously, celebrities and laymen alike are tweeting misattributed quotes at Scaramucci and it is a wild ride.

If you’re done laughing, check out Scaramucci’s most recently RTed tweets that depict a decidedly different view than Trump’s.

One might think that the President would at least select a Communications Director that would AGREE with his views. But this is America in 2017!

false false

And if these tweets are already gone by the time you’re reading this, well, it’s because Scaramucci finally got around to checking out his archive.

What a mess. Hopefully Scaramucci isn’t taking the Twitter razzing too hard. If he’s truly hurt, he can always look to the advice of former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln and “live, laugh, love.”
