First trailer for “Ant-Man and the Wasp” shows us everyone’s mad at Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly is the real hero

Because 2018 might be one of the best years ever (you can hold me to that), we’re not getting just one Marvel movie, we’re getting three. First up is Black Panther, which roars into theaters on February 16th. Then we’ve got Avengers: Infinity War on May 4th, which might be the be all and end all of superhero movies. And after that? Oh, just a little movie called Ant-Man and the Wasp.

It’s little because Ant-Man is little. Get it? But the movie isn’t little itself. The movie will probably make a bazillion dollars, if not more, because it has Paul Rudd playing the best wisecracking,thief-with-a-heart-of-gold Avenger, Scott Lang. It’s safe to assume it’s going to be a big movie, maybe not just in size.

When we last saw our hero, in his own stand-alone movie, he had saved the day. Way to go, Ant-Man! However, Scott can’t celebrate forever, because then along came Captain America: Civil War. You see, Scott wasn’t exactly supposed to go Germany to fight with Captain America — AS HE’S KIND OF CRIMINAL IN SAN FRANCISCO. So even though Scott returns a hero after defeating Team Iron Man, you could say that everyone’s pretty mad at Scott.

But how could you be mad at a face like this?

Quite easy, as we quickly learn, because Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and his daughter, Hope (Evangeline Lilly), are on the run thanks to Scott’s actions. That’s not all, because Hope has suited up herself as the Wasp (!), and because of Ant-Man (in spite of Ant-Man), Hank has given Hope waaaaaaay better technology than Scott for her very own super-suit.

Now Scott’s the one upset, and since he’s Scott, he floats to Hank, “So I take it you didn’t have that tech available for me?” 

“Oh, I did,” Hank replies.

This trailer has pretty much everything you could want from Paul Rudd and Ant-Man, except that it is seriously lacking in Michael Peña’s Luis and his sassy storytelling. We’ll see all this — and Walter Goggins! — when Ant-Man and the Wasp flies into theaters on July 6th.
