Another huge ‘Hamilton’ star is leaving the show on July 9
We already knew about Lin-Manuel Miranda’s plans to leave his show Hamilton on July 9, as well as Phillipa Soo’s, and now we’ve heard word of another star leaving the same day: Leslie Odom Jr.
Odom won the Tony for his portrayal of Aaron Burr, Hamilton’s rival, beating out Lin-Manuel himself in the best actor category. Odom made the announcement of his departure public via a Facebook Live video on Sunday.
“I am indeed leaving on July 9. It has just been the most completely wonderful, totally healing, and inspiring experience from beginning to end,” he said in the video. “I will never forget the people that I’ve met here. I’ll never forget all of you.” We’ll never forget you either, Leslie!
As for where he’s heading off to, he has yet to disclose! That said, we’re sure that sparkly new Tony he’s got makes him a pretty hot commodity in the theater world.
During the Facebook Live conversation, he mentioned that his very favorite part of the Hamilton experience was the time in the rehearsal room before the show even opened. “That [uncharted territory]…kept me up at night,” he said.
With that in mind, his departure might be the pursuit of a feeling. “I’m excited to have a blank page again. I’m excited to go out and find something new,” he said.
We’ll just be here singing “Wait For It, ” don’t mind us.
