Drop everything right now and watch Anne Hathaway control a giant monster in this trailer for “Colossal”

Anne Hathaway, one of our favorite comedy actresses, stars in perhaps the most unique movie premise we’ve seen so far this year. In Colossal, Anne Hathaway learns that she controls a giant monster. That’s right. Sure, we’ve seen plenty of movies such as Godzilla and Pacific Rim where monsters wreak chaos on major cities. But, writer-director Nacho Vigalondo wonders, what if you were somehow able to control those monsters with your every move?

Here’s our first look at Anne Hathaway in Colossal.

The film’s official description has us very, very intrigued:

Apparently, Anne’s character, Gloria, goes through a lousy breakup and moves back home, only to find she’s losing short-term memory. Meanwhile, a giant monster is savaging South Korea, and Gloria starts to realize she is Ratatouille-style controlling the beast.

This is our kind of sci-fi.

We love that this seems to be a blend of comedy and drama. Making a monster, which Wired explains is called a “kaiju,” dance? That’s funny stuff. (Plus, comedy heavyweight Jason Sudeikis co-stars!) Of course, things get serious when Hathaway realizes that her every move could cause untold destruction. We’re wondering how on earth this movie can resolve itself!

Colossal debuted last year at Fantastic Fest, and was received with almost unanimous praise and strong reviews for Hathaway’s performance and the film’s “far-out concept.”  The film will also screen at the Sundance Film Festival. The rest of us can see the film when it premieres April 7th. We cannot wait.
