Anna Kendrick shared her most epic on-stage childhood fail

These days, she’s no doubt used to performing in front of crowds, but it wasn’t always that way: Anna Kendrick just shared an epic on-stage childhood fail. It happened when she was just five years old, and we don’t know whether to laugh or cry on her behalf.

Now, of course, she’s a major celebrity, starring in the beloved Pitch Perfect series, but Kendrick always keeps it real and loves to regale us with stories of her “awkward” years. And in an interview with People‘s editor-in-chief Jess Cagle, the actress shared her earliest performance disaster.

In a new episode of The Jess Cagle Interview, Kendrick recalled the very first time she appeared on stage at a recital. “I got on stage and started singing ‘The Good Ship Lollipop,’ because I looked like Shirley Temple and had the curly hair…I got out in my little white dress…and totally forgot the words, and I started to just slide into a split really slowly.”

"I don’t know why! Really slowly, it’s not like I gave up and was like, 'I’m going to get on the floor!' Like, I just reeeeeally slowly sunk down and then slowly face-planted. The world's slowest face-plant."

However, she didn’t give up. “I realized like, oh no one is coming to get me. I’m just up here…so I stood up and kind of got back into the chorus at some point.”

Kendrick also said that she amazingly brushed the whole thing off almost immediately, recalling that her mom ran backstage with tears in her eyes, expecting her daughter to be upset. But when she saw Kendrick was totally unfazed by her epic public fail, she too, acted like it was NBD.

And this is officially just one more reason to love Anna Kendrick.
