Famous parents of the year: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt

This year, Angelina and Brad set the new gold standard for celebrity parenting (and, real talk, just parenting in general). Anyone who comes in contact with tiny humans could super take a page from the Brangelina School of Parenting and benefit times a gazillion. Here are some of the power couple’s power parenting moves of 2014:

1.) Most signficantly, Brad And Angelina Respect Their Child’s Gender Non-Conforming Choices

Brad and Angelina’s third child was given the name Shiloh and assigned a female gender at birth. Since the age of three, however, the child has preferred to dress in traditionally masculine clothes, sport a short haircut, and go by “John.” The parents have been nothing but supportive of their child’s choices, and aren’t pushing any gender on John. The Jolie-Pitts are setting such an important example for the parenting world: when it comes to gender, let your child take the lead, and wholly support however that child chooses to identify.

2.) They Involved Their Kids In Their Wedding In The Best Way

First of all, they took their sweet time getting married, demo-ing to their kids that they don’t have to fold to societal pressure, but rather should live life on their own personal clocks.

Then they had their six kids help organize their wedding (to recap, that’s 13-year-old Maddox, 11-year-old Pax, 9-year-old Zahara, 8-year-old John, and 6-year-old twins, Knox and Vivienne). Pax made a cake, the kids made pillows for the rings, and together the offspring helped write their parents’ vow, making Brad and Angelina promise to always apologize after fights. I know your hearts all just exploded, so I’ll give you a few seconds to pick up all your heart-pieces off the floor before we move on.

3.) Angelina Wore A Wedding Dress Covered In The Drawings Of Her Six Kids

Yes, you know your mother loves you if she puts your drawings up on the fridge, but you SUPER DUPER know she loves you if she puts your drawings up on her wedding dress. Angelina Jolie worked closely with Atelier Versace to create her wedding look, which included her children’s illustrations being embroidered on her gown and veil.

4.) Brad And The Kids Stepped In For Angelina When She Was Too Sick To Attend Her Premiere

It’s a sucky situation when you finally direct a movie and are all geared up to attend the premiere and then you get THE CHICKEN POX. That’s exactly what happened to Angelina, and as much as it must have blown chunks to have missed her premiere, I’m sure the super heroic sweetness of Brad, Maddox, Pax, and John stepping in for her must have made her feel, like, a LITTLE-little better.  The takeaway: they’re a family and they’ve got each other’s back in sickness and in health.
