Andy Grammer and his wife are expecting their first child, and it’s a girl!

The mastermind behind the hits “Honey I’m Good” and “Fresh Eyes” has some news he’d like to share with the world. Andy Grammer and his wife are pregnant — and it’s a girl! The 33-year-old singer-songwriter told PEOPLE that he and his wife Aijia are expecting their first child to arrive in July, and they’re especially excited because this is the first girl to be born on either side of the family.

Andy says he’s looking forward to raising a daughter. He takes the role of fathering a daughter “very seriously” and thinks it’s a special bond. “There’s a lot about women’s empowerment right now; I think the coolest thing you can do is just raise a really strong daughter,” he said. We couldn’t agree more.

Aijia, who is also a singer-songwriter, is about five months into the pregnancy. She opened up about what it’s been like thus far, even sharing some of the more difficult moments she’s experienced.

"One of the things I really want to make my mission is to talk about it because I feel like so many things we see are just people taking these beautiful photos and that’s not really how pregnancy is, Aijia told PEOPLE.

She struggled with morning sickness and migraines in the beginning, and her already existing hypoglycemia got worse since she became pregnant, so she has to make sure she eats often enough. Andy makes her a peanut butter and jelly sandwich every night before bed, and she wakes up around 3 a.m. to eat it so she wakes up feeling strong. Too cute.

To add an extra layer of Aww! to the news, Andy shared that he lost his mother eight years ago, so knowing they’re having a daughter is “filling a void that’s really sweet for us.” He and Aijia are going to incorporate his mother’s name somehow when they name their daughter.

“I’m excited to take my daughter to go get ice cream,” Andy also admitted. Um, you’re halfway to an excellent parent already, Andy. We can’t wait to meet her!
