Time to lose your cool: There’s going to be a TV series about Princess Anastasia

Our new favorite series that we haven’t even seen yet has just been announced. ABC’s Freeform optioned a pitch for a show that will follow the fictional life of Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanova of Russia — better known as the mysterious Princess Anastasia.

Though the princess was reportedly killed at age 17 (along with the rest of her family), rumors of her possible escape circulated for decades after her death. These were fueled in part by the fact that after her execution, no body or burial location was given. This prompted several young women to try and impersonate the young princess.

This new series will be an hour long and is set in Paris in the 1920s. The series is based on the question, “What if she had actually escaped? Where would she be now?” It follows her escape from Communist Russia to Paris, where she leads a happier, more normal life. Well, kind of. She actually ends up joining forces with an elite espionage agency working to prevent the next world war, and becomes the world’s first female spy in the process.

No casting news has been announced yet, but we can’t wait to see who might play the Duchess turned Badass.
