The touching reason an entire class skipped their senior trip

There are some simple acts of human kindness that just make your heart melt. Today’s news out of a small town in New Hampshire, is one of those supremely heart-melting stories.

At Profile Junior-Senior High School in Bethlehem, N.H., the senior class raised enough money to go on their class trip — a four-day visit to Rydin’ Hi Ranch in New York. But when they found out that their principal, Courtney Vashaw, had been recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, they voted unanimously to donate the total amount of funds raised for the trip — nearly $8,000 —  to her medical care.

In an interview with local news channel WMUR, Principal Vashaw said that while the school’s staff and administration always tried to encourage their students to act selflessly and be kind to others, she never anticipated being on the receiving end of their generosity.

Principal Vashaw hadn’t even originally planned on sharing her diagnosis with her students, but since she knew she wouldn’t be at school for an extended period of time she chose to share her condition.

While the senior class at Profile Junior-Senior High School are still planning a class trip, it will be a somewhat smaller event and will likely take place in their hometown instead. They also plan to continue raising funds for Principal Vashaw and her treatment.

As senior class president Christopher Sirois told the channel, “Every one of us has a connection with her, and she has given so much to us that we just wanted to give back.” We are so touched that they did.
